Tree Planting Program 2.0 (2022)

As part of our small contribution to battle climate change, this year, we added something else to planting trees – that is to raise awareness among the local communities of Ranau, Sabah about the importance of tree planting.

We resume our planting at Bukit Hampuan Forest Reserve, after various times of rescheduling due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

On 22nd July 2022, besides tree planting, our team of 10 organized a talk in Ranau Community Hall with the purpose to urge the local community to make a difference by inviting the public to join our next tree planting program.

The event was attended by civil servants from different government sectors, teachers, students and some local business owners.

McCorry, as a company will continue to strive to make a difference by “greening” Sabah, and continue inspiring the public to do the same for our homeland.

Tree Planting Program (2021)

McCorry has for the last 6 years operated its offices worldwide with a carbon neutral footprint by purchasing carbon credits from a forestry project in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo).

This year we included the carbon footprint of our team and their families, i.e., to cover the amount of fuel they use to drive to work and the electricity they use at home (the latter because many of us have been working from home).

Instead of buying carbon credits this year we decided to collaborate with the Sabah Forestry Department under their 36 million Tree Planting Program to off-set our carbon footprint and to create a more sustainable environment.

McCorry has committed to plant 1,000 seedlings of bayur and seraya species (both indigenous rainforest trees) in the Hampuan Forest Reserve, Ranau district, Sabah (about 3 hours’ drive from our head office). The 1,000 trees will cover approximately 3 hectares (7.5 acres) of land.
On 11th and 12th December 2021, our team of 32 managed to plant 453 trees in the forest under difficult weather conditions.

McCorry will continue to complete the remaining commitment in 2022 and it will be an on-going initiative as part of our company culture and commitment to the environment.

This is a video about Balambangan Island that lies at the Tip of Borneo, showcasing its rich biodiversity and historic importance. We sponsored this video because there are plans to destroy the caves and the island for mining. Please help us to share this video around to raise awareness on the outstanding natural beauty of Borneo.
